National Tattoo Day was created over a decade ago, but it never really took off. The non-profit organization Operation Tattooing Freedom wants to change that. Operation Tattooing Freedom provides tattoo therapy to Veterans with PTSD. A way to improve the mental health of our veterans by having a tattoo session with another veteran. It allows the two to talk in an environment that has no stigma. This year they want to spread the word through their Facebook campaign, National Tattoo Day, that July 17th is National Tattoo Day.
The founder of Operation Tattooing Freedom, Lewis Hunt, wants to create a bigger event. He wants to “show the world we are not ashamed of our ink.” So artists and shops need to get the word out. Spread the word, spread the love and kill the taboo. Let’s show the world that we are a force to be reckoned with…..
So on July 17th I hope to see amazing pictures of new ink to raise awareness of Operation Tattooing Freedom. Veterans Helping Veterans….

Make Monday July 17th the biggest baddest day to get a tattoo and show the world that ink is therapeutic. That it is just one outlet used in helping the mental health of our Veterans. Tattoos are the story of people’s lives. You can easily read it on their skin. It is not just art or angst or rebellion. Ink is beautiful.
