CJ McCollum recently posted a photo of Carmelo Anthony wearing a Portland Trail Blazers jersey on his Instagram. I am not sure if this is a hint of an inside scoop or hint that Melo has joined the team. Melo has stated before according to online sources that he would only waive the no trade clause if he went to Houston or Cleveland. Melo’s All Star basketball buddies, Chris Paul and LeBron James are on those respective teams. Houston recently received Chris Paul in a trade with Patrick Beverly, Sam Dekker, Montrez Harrell, DeAndre Liggins, Kyle Wiltjer and Lou Williams. Chris Paul is probably the best defensive point guard behind Gary Payton and Walt “Clyde” Frazier. Chris Paul joins Houston Rockets for the 2017-18 season. I see him doing well with Harden, but not so sure about Anthony, although Anthony has played well in All Star Games, Olympic Teams, etc..
The Rockets are competing with the Portland Trail Blazers. The Rockets are after a third player after Paul George was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. George had stated he would sign with the Lakers after becoming a free agent 2018. He has since said that 2017 Finals MVP Kevin Durant made him embrace OKC and was willing to too. Melo is now on Rockets’ list and is a destination Carmelo Anthony is willing to waive his no trade clause to join.
The Knicks were close to a deal possibly from the New Orleans Pelicans and Brooklyn Nets. The New Orleans Pelicans are interested in re-obtaining Ryan Anderson, even with a three year $60 million remaining contract needs to be part of the transaction. The Brooklyn Nets also can take the Ryan Anderson contract as mentioned by the WFAN. Ryan Anderson would fit since he’s a 3 point shooter, a starter. The Nets are willing to take salary dumps for draft picks, which may be why three teams are involved. They received D’angelo Russell, DeMarre Carroll and two draft picks
from big trades.
I think the combination of Lillard, McCollum and Anthony could be deadly with possibly games where the 3 of them score 50 each for their team, if they are still healthy. Recently, Melo had to deal with the separation of his wife.
According to ESPN NY Radio with Gordon Deamer, Jeff Van Gundy has recently stated that Melo doesn’t fit with the D’Antoni offense, playing too much iso ball.
